The AVA
supports the Australian Government’s recent decision to cancel Huang Xiangmo’s
Permanent Residence visa. To that end we
continue to urge all of our Australian compatriots to defend the rule of law in
Australia, and to continue to expose and to work toward the expulsion and
elimination of all unlawful foreign influences upon our Australian government
and our nation.
Huang Xiangmo
was head of the Australian Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification
of China (ACPPRC) from 2014 to 2017. In 2016 he became head of the Oceanic
Alliance for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China (OAPPRC). Both
the ACPPRC and OAPPRC are official branches of the China Council for the
Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification (CCPPNR) in Beijing, which is
controlled by the United Front Work Department (UFWD) of the CCP Central
Committee. Huang claims that the ACPPRC and OAPPRC are not connected to Chinese
Government and do not receive funding from them. That claim is a lie. The
ACPPRC and OAPPRC are affiliates of the CCPPNR outside of China. They all
operate in a similar way: The
appointment of key members is controlled by the CCP and their political
activities are controlled by local Chinese groups who act in the interests of
the Chinese Government.
Huang is also
President of the Federation of Australian Guangdong Community (FAGC), which is
a part of China’s Overseas United Front network. Moreover, while in Australia
he remained a standing director of the 9th Executive Committee of the China
Council for the Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification and an executive
director of the 6th council of China Overseas Exchange Association, both of
which are senior positions of China’s United Front organisations. It has been
revealed that Huang made numerous political donations to further the CCP's
influence overseas. His campaigning for the CCP has challenged Australia’s
policies, core values and democracy.
Huang's corrupt
actions have damaged the fabric of Australian society. Huang argues that the
work carried out by the ACPPRC to “unite Taiwan” by the PRC is in line with the
Australian Government’s view. This argument is misleading. The Australian
Government's acknowledgement of the ‘one China’ principle does not mean that
Australia supports the CCP's control over Taiwan. They are two completely
different ideas. Huang’s political titles and activities demonstrate that he is
an agent for the Chinese Government overseas. By denying that he works for the
CCP, he has deceived the Australian Government and its people, and has
sabotaged Australia's foreign influence laws.
Huang Xiangmo's
corrupt actions have damaged our national interests and undermined the basic
principles of democracy. While working for a foreign government that often acts
contrary to Australian national interests, Huang applied to become a citizen of
Australia. Australian Immigration Department made a laudable decision to deny
Huang Xiangmo's citizenship and cancel his residence visa. This will stop
infiltration by a foreign government, protect the interests of local Chinese
communities and uphold our national values.
The AVA calls
upon all Australians, including all Chinese-Australians, to join us in our
effort to defend this country's democractic institutions and rule of law
against political infiltration of any authoritarian regimes, including China
under the rule of the Chinese Communist Party. It is time for Australia to
stand up and say "no" to CCP's intimidation and coercion.
